synopsis:

A duplex within this 19-foot by 100-foot glass structure designed by Kohn Pederson Fox was made into a family home that blends a modernist, downtown feel with the luxury that homeowners expect on the Upper East Side of New York. The design, materials, and subtly textured fabrics in a neutral palette were carefully curated to maximize the unique views up and down Park Avenue and the light that makes for the building’s most dramatic asset. All built elements were positioned away from the glass walls to create dramatic living spaces and to accentuate the dramatic length of the apartment and the incoming light. The floors are connected by a sculptural glass staircase that floats along the exterior glass wall and creates and illuminated accent day and night. The kitchen’s open floor plan and eat-in area allow it to serve as an entertainment area. A medley of white marble stones executed in single slabs was used for the bathrooms, which also have integral vanity sinks made of South African marble. Eclectic accessories in bronze and ceramic complement the owner’s Modern art collection.
