Oyster Bay, NY
Located on 15-acre site
A master plan was developed for this nature preserve and historic site of Theodore Roosevelt’s gravesite, adjacent to his summer home. It included an aviary design and a property revitalization plan allowing the facility to better reflect the core philosophy of the organization. The project was informed by the need for sustainable design that would also educate visitors about conservation as well as recreate humane, naturalistic habitats for hundreds of animal species.
To reinforce the sense of community, the implementation of the plan involved a new central outdoor entry court as well as a new path system for the exhibit areas. Architectural projects were designed with sensitivity to the history and building character of historic Oyster Bay Cove, and include a first phase of new aviaries, an education/information center and outdoor classrooms.
